8-bit Adventure Anthology: Volume I (PC/PS4/XB1)

The early days of Point and Click Adventure games can be traced back to the 1980’s Macventure series developed by ICOM Simulations. 8-bit Adventure Anthology: Volume I is a port of these classic titles available today in cutting edge RGB graphics!

In 1985 the game Déjà Vu was developed for the Macintosh computing system of computation with the idea of there being a new way to play RPGs. Set in 1941 shortly after the attacks on Pearl Harbor you play Private Dick Ace Harding on a mission to prove you are innocent!

Fast forward to the year 1986 when the game Uninvited was released, the second in the Macventure series. Uninvited takes place in a haunted mansion where you have to find your missing sibling, solve puzzles and eventually escape…or do you?! insert spooky music*

Finally in 1987 Shadowgate was released for the Apple II computer. This point and click adventure was set in the mysterious castle of Shadowgate where you, the hero, are tasked to destroy an evil warlock, save the world, and then have a pizza party. Ok I made that last part up, but it is very good vs. evil hero stuff that usually ends with pizza.

All of these games have been brought into the future with the help of publisher Abstraction Games and developer Zojoi LLC, which is owned by Shadowgate’s original developers Dave Marsh and Karl Roeflofs. It has been released on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Steam (PC).

The port/remaster/port has done a fantastic job of preserving these classic titles, which have shaped our current game space dramatically from their initial release in the 1980’s. If you love these point and click adventures I highly recommend that you pick up this title. These games are nearly 30 years old but they hold up well in their fun and difficulty.

8-Bit Adventure Anthology is available on Steam, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One
