Air Missions: HIND is an arcade combat flight simulator based on the Russian Mi-24 Hind assault helicopter, also known as the “Flying Tank”. Made by 3DIVISION, the player is tasked with mounting a variety of weapons with which this versatile helicopter is capable of carrying – from UPK 23 machine guns to GUV gun pods and FAB bombs, to a variety of guided and unguided self-propelled munitions. Among many other features, the game offers a variety of single and multiplayer modes, three control modes, and 15 campaign missions.
The features of the game include: three control modes for casual and experienced players, fifteen missions based on fictional conflicts, four different environments (Central Asia, Eastern Europe, Arctic Ocean and Southeast Asia), a single player and multiplayer mode. Including Campaign missions, Deathmatch, Instant Action, and Online co-operative missions. A variety of weapons at your disposal: AAM, MCLOS, SACLOS, S-5, S-8, S-13, S-24 – Use those to destroy the enemy and another three Soviet helicopters to fly added for Xbox One launch. These are the iconic Mi-8 Hip and Mi-28 Havoc and the instantly recognizable Ka-50 Hokum.
The multiplayer portion of the game was somewhat “empty”, I could find no other players to enjoy the game with whether this was because it was in the launch week of the Indy title I have no idea. The single player on the other hand was amazing each scenario tasked you with either destroying an enemy army or saving some wounded soldiers from battlefields across the 4 areas of Central Asia, Eastern Europe, Arctic Ocean and Southeast Asia.
After completing each scenario you unlock armaments that can be attached to the chopper of your choice with some of the scenarios teaching you how to use them. The control system for the Xbox version is pretty intuitive and the game does a really good job of teaching you all the controls in the first scenario.
I really enjoyed playing this game as it captured for me what the Xbox has been lacking for a very long time a good flight simulation game. There hasn’t been one since Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X. I really like the fact that an independent dev from Slovakia sees the potential of good flight sims on the Xbox, I tip my hat to the guys at 3DIVISION on the work that they have put in and continue to support and I hope that they have more in the future.
